Eyeless MaxJunho 12, 2011Don't listen to the nay-Sayers, given the turnover here, Canteen is one of the best (if pricey) alternatives to the usual Indian and pub fare of king street. Try the wonderful gnocchi.

The food is really good here, even the pre-made stuff at the take-out counter. But service can be a bit slow even when it's not busy.

Great patio. Great vibe. Open, light and airy. Grilled chicken is always too oily so ask for less olive oil to get it just right

Chili-ginger margarita is my new fave, just beating out The Stompin' Tom Collins, my previous one.
If you're for breakfast then you must try the breakfast butty. They also have local fruit juices, and a cocoa laced pain au choc.
The vegetable curry is lovely--roasted vegetables, chickpeas, coconut rice & naan beautifully presented in a tagine. Not too spicy.

The ham and cheese baguette is your best bet from the grab and go.
Try the Mac and cheese. It's been sent down from the gods!
Semolina Gnocchi and French Onion Soup are best in town!

Great food but the service is terrible. Only go here when you've got time to spare and you're in a good mood.
