It's easy to dismiss this place as just a cafe, but their savory offerings are really tasty too. Limited menu so definitely one for fans of real Japanese food. No substitutions.

The Akamaru Modern ramen was the best ramen I had outside of Japan, although I am sure the others are amazing too! Get the extra special pork belly, if you know what I mean!

Try the Black Cod Kasuzuke - A must here at Maneki. Amazing flavors and texture. Marinated in kasu (the lees of sake) and grilled, the cod transforms into little succulent bites of heaven. (via @Food
The bento box is your friend! Try a new dish with a familiar one and share accordingly. I recommend the yakiniku, agedashi tofu, chicken katsu, tenzaru soba, and salmon with shiitake mushroom.
Def try the pork cutlet curry, recommended for a reason. Also they have japanese marble soda (if you don't know you'll have to try it).
The miso ramen is the best ramen I've had in North America. The consistency of the noodles, the right balance with the fat in the meat, the right atmosphere, and finally, the nutty kitchen staff!
If you like dollar beers and filet mignon, try this place for reverse happy hour at 9:30 PM. The fried rice and calamari are also winners.

Don't be scared of the long line, it moves fast! As others have mentioned, cash only. Well worth your time; easily amongst the very best cheap eats in Waikiki. Highly recommended.
For the freshest of the freshest fish, make a reservation at the bar for either Tuesday or Friday evenings when their latest supply of fish just arrived. And omakase all the way!
You may need to stay clear of this joint if your sodium tolerance is low to average. Their broth tends to be on the salty side; but otherwise, super tasty!
