Highly recommend the tour, book in advance. Guide was Barbara and she was so nice and welcoming and knowledgeable. If driving, they will give you little bottles to take away the tasting whisky.
Carbonara was good and we had a nice half and half pizza as well. Seafood linguine unfortunately had the fresh pasta all clumped up during cooking but the staff were nice enough to waive the cost.
Loch Ness Centre has been newly renovated for £1.5m! You’ll learn about the myths and science of Loch Ness as you go through a series of rooms watching an interesting story unfold. Try to spot Nessie!

A short walk from the carpark to see the falls, and go into the little hut for some nice photos.
A rather narrow one-way road in, can get crowded sometimes and have to wait to get to the viewpoint for a nice photo.
We did a takeaway and the Tom yum, green curry and pad Thai were very authentic and flavourful.
The breakfast was very good! Saw a queue waiting for the cafe to open before 9. Banana caramel toast had loads of banana on crunchy toast with cinnamon and sugar.
The guided tour was very good and brought us to all the interesting bits on the field!
In depth history of the Jacobite rising and the culminating battle at Culloden which ended the war, arrive early before your guided tour to walk through and explore the exhibits!
Nice and quiet, not crowded and you can explore the history of this site at leisure.

Popped in on a Saturday afternoon to find it fairly quiet and a good people watching spot. Not bad coffee too.

Shelves that go on and on and on! Excellent selection of books and games, plus the Scottish section on the ground floor really consolidates all that is great reading on Scotland.
Great for a quiet walk, and do visit Greyfriars Bobby at the front of the cemetery with an offering of some sticks!
Huge place to explore the many war museums within the castle. Don’t miss seeing the Crown Jewels and there are mediaeval music performances in the Great Hall. Views are amazing too.
Black & Blue burger was great, as were the sweet potato fries! Lunch deal comes with a drink as well as a discount on the burger, worth it for £12!
Fantastic audio tour (free with your ticket) which lets you learn about every room at leisure. No photos allowed inside (it’s a working palace after all) but exhibits are really fascinating.
Ancient ruins, part of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The quiet in this space is nice for a moment of contemplation.
Bit of a challenging hike to the top but the views are worth it. Pity about the graffiti on the markers though.
Went on an hour-long trip to Craigleith and the Bass Rock to see gannets and was lucky enough to spot a white cormorant too! Guide was young but knowledgeable and the skipper was great!
Interesting exhibits to learn about seabirds and the marine ecosystem around the area. Don’t order mac & cheese at the cafe though, it’s inedible
