This slim takeout spot caters to NYU students and Indian cab drivers. The all-vegetarian food is very cheap and satisfying (try the rajma), good for late night snacks in the East Village.
$3.50 gets you a bowl of rice with a huge pile of your choice of 2 vegetables: spinach, lentils, and more. Enough for a small meal but you can opt for a bigger bowl or throw in a $1.25 samosa.

All I know is that my friend from Bombay refuses to eat American-Indian take-out, loves the food at Punjabi. Also there might as well be a swinging door for the flow of cabbies in and out of here.
I wouldn't get any of the fried food (pakoras, samosas, etc) because they are not as good reheated. But rotis and rice with any vegetables are AMAZING and super cheap. Also highly recommend kulfi

One of my favorite spot in my area. For $3 a small plate and $5 for a large, this place does wonders for my pockets & tastebuds. Who knew veggie can be so filling?
