Pricey but wondrous selection of natural wines and great food (with slight Japanese tilt). Raw fish is great here, whether it be of the crudo or sashimi variety. Get there early for a bar seat.
High end flower shop with a selection of unique, artisan gifts also pulls pretty good shots of Verve Coffee (out of Santa Cruz) - possibly the only spot in the city offering their coffee.
Some of the better Korean food in NYC, produced by the owners of another fave, The Good Fork. Great quality ingredients, good beer list, weekend lunch. Service is a bit unfocused and mostly non-Korean
This used to be my favorite Sichuan in NYC and it's still a higher-ranked mid-tier spot, but the city now has a few higher end spots including the indomitable Guan Fu.
A neighborhood restaurant in the best sense, Lot 2 turns out great cocktails, one of my fave NYC burgers (w/ stellar wedge fries), and quality farm to table food. I wish they'd change the beer list.
Consistently some of the best BBQ in New York City, along with underrated chicken wings. I love the pickled vegetables they give for free, and the burnt end baked beans are good albeit a bit oversweet

A fancier version of a Japanese teishoku (set meal) restaurant. My favorites are the set meals with fish. Food is delicious in a homestyle way.
The tasting room is a spacious replacement for their old sweat box and a wonderful place to sample the wares of these craft beer mad scientists. Ugly Baby, NYC's best Thai, is nearby. Bring a growler.
I love everything they do here: salads, pasta & pizza, great craft beer list. Brunch menu only: double cheeseburger, a beefy, textural delight, a Burger Joint style elevated backyard burger.
Always packed, Russ & Daughters managed to create a cafe that appeals to hipsters and elderly Jewish folk alike. It's hard to get a seat without a reservation but go on an off hour to snag a bar seat.
Hip, happening, delicious, St Anselm can be loud, and wait times can run to 3 hours, but it's worth it for their simple meat cuts and interesting vegetable dishes. Over-salting can be an issue.
The best Japanese bakery in New York City, Takahachi also has good sandwiches. Their Gimme! Coffee gets the job done but nothing special.
Friendly shop cum coffee shop with better than average assortment of baked goods - get the Roberta's olive oil coffee cake. A good place to work. Only bummer is the paper cups.
Wonderful low-key all-day casual Italian. cavolo nero, carote lesse, coniglio fritto, sicilian meatballs, svizzerina are faves so far, but haven't had anything bad. Nice cocktails.
The only good Yun Nan in NYC, I crave their cold rice noodles ($6), the glorious hot & sour wontons, crossing the bridge noodles, cucumber, and mixed lu mein (cold offal). Leia mais.

Best croissants aux Amandes in NYC. All other pastries are great too as is the bread. Lunch sandwiches rule as does the spicy hummus.
There are a few good things down here. Changes frequently. Tian Fu, in the back left corner has good malaxiangguo (dry hot pot).
