Me & my girl Chelsa got engaged here on Jan 1, 2013. The exact spot is: 10.295051, -85.84893 (about as far south as you can get on a bike w/out hitting rocks). Night time bike ride = recommended!
Best "home base" you could ask for -- American food, free wifi, surf lessons. A few tips: (a) get the nachos, (b) get the smoothie (c) take the $100 zipline & tubing day-trip.
Best restaurant we found in Tamarindo. Don't miss tuna sushi app, scallops + crazy Pacific lobster (spikes, no claws!). Try your best not to fall in the pool. ps: You'll prob need reservations.
2nd best meal we had in Tamarindo. Don't snooze on appetizer sampler (huge!) & the STEAK COOKED ON A 500 DEGREE VOLCANIC ROCK HOT HOT HOT. ps: Walk back to town on the beach, 100x nicer than road
One of my top 3 meals in Tamarindo -- pastas are great, tho regret not going for one of the pizzas. Quiet spot off the strip.
One of those spots on the beach strip that you *think* would have touristy food, but its actually excellet. I went all-in on the seafood kebobs and no regrets. Skip the flaming-banana dessert tho.
If you opted "all inclusive" you got robbed - skip the buffet & hit the places in town instead (see my 4SQ list). If you're getting frozen drinks, BYOFruit from the salad bar and have 'em blend it up.
I think this is part of Witch's Rock Surf Camp, but whatevs -- best place we found for post-surf cocktails. Grab a seat at bar facing sunset & order half a dozen Imperial Silver (Costa Rican Coronas)
Great place for sunset cocktails. Fish tacos are good (for Tamarindo) but not great. Prob not a bad place to catch a soccer/football match either judging from the EPL scarves hanging behind the bar.
